The Process

A strong personal statement is not written in one sitting. It takes conversation, structure, drafting, and careful revision. This mentorship guides students through that process from first idea to final polish.

I take a limited number of students each season so every student receives real attention.

Phase 1 - Discovery and Direction

We begin with a focused conversation about the student’s experiences, interests, and goals.

Together, we look for the idea, memory, or image that can hold the essay.

By the end of this phase, we have:
• A clear essay direction
• A working outline
• A drafting plan

About 2 hours

Phase 2 - Structure and First Draft

About 4 to 5 hours

We shape the narrative before polishing sentences.

We map the opening, turning point, and ending. Then the student begins the first draft with guidance and feedback.

What we are shaping:
• Clear structure
• Specific detail
• Honest voice

First drafts are rough. That's  normal.

Phase 3 - Deep Revision

This is where real progress happens.

We revise for structure, clarity, and language. We cut what sounds forced and keep what sounds true. Sections are rewritten as needed.

Students learn how real writers revise.

About 4 to 5 hours

Phase 4 - Final Polish

About 2 to 3 hours

We tighten sentences, check tone, and prepare for submission.

We also discuss how the essay can carry into interviews and supplemental responses.
By the end, the essay sounds like the student who wrote it.

Pricing

Personal Statement Mentorship - $2,500

This mentorship is designed for one strong personal statement and includes close guidance through discovery, drafting, revision, and final polish.

Each season, I work with a limited number of students so the process stays personal, rigorous, and attentive.

Most students can expect up to 15 hours of direct work across the personal statement process.

Every session is conducted directly with Jacob Lozano, a writing teacher and mentor who has taught composition and narrative writing since 2013.

What to Know

  • The mentorship focuses on one primary personal statement.

  • The process emphasizes student voice and authentic storytelling.

  • 3rd Coast Narratives provides guidance and instruction, not ghostwriting.

  • Admission to any university cannot be guaranteed.

This is real writing instruction, not quick editing.

Who Should Apply?

This mentorship is for students who want:

  • An honest essay in their own voice

  • Real revision and feedback

  • Thoughtful mentorship

This is not for students looking for a fast template or a finished essay written for them.
